A new alias!

Well I'm not getting one just yet, but I'm thinking about it. Pakattack is just getting old and it seems a little childish to me. My mom has commented on it when she needs to use my email for something like medical stuff since she doesn't really have her own so yeah.

I've got one idea I really like and that's "Kibaine" It's Kiba with 'ine' at the end. (semi-long story I don't feel like typing)

That's my idea but if anyone else has ideas I'd like to hear them too!

I'm Internet Explorer Compatable!

Well in my attempt to make my blog better I made it wider! I'm sure a few of you might have noticed. Anyway, while I was changing things around I tried out the thing that should have made one version of my blog viewable only to me (which didn't work by the way) I had to use IE and I found out there was a major flaw that placed the sidebar under all the posts, so that's fixed ^_^

I've still got more I plan on messing with but I wanted to get the width problem out of the way. There's still a slight problem in IE but nothing that will hinder normal opperation.

So yeah, sorry to anyone that ever tried to view my blog in IE, you shouldn't have a problem now!

P is for Pointless

I wonder, how many of my posts actaully mean something. How many actually give something back to the people that read them instead of just wasting their time? Probably not many. I'm going to try and change that as best I can, hopefully it works out. ^_~

Ok, lets start with some constructive feedback. Now is not the time for those fun "what do you want me to blog about" feedbacks but this time I want to know what can make my blog better. A wider Nav bar? I was thinking that (Sorry Brian, I love the skin it's just not wide enough!). What else? I've added the quotes which are always fun (one of the reason I need a wider sidebar). I'm going to try adding a clock that will work for everyone since I know Brian had problems with my last one. Hm.... Maybe better links, most of them on there I barely use anymore....

You know, stuff like that, what would make you say "I want Patrick's Blog to be my homepage" or at least part of your home tabs?

1 Comments:

Well, I already have you on my favorites list and I think Brian did an excellent job doing the layotu that you've only had for what a month.

I don't think you should do anything -- it is perfect -- I shoudl say almost. One problem I noticed (to consult Brian about) is that when you set your monitor to resolutions higher than 1024 x 768, the diagonal line background falls apart. I can send you a screenshot if you need one.

one last thing -- you should take away the bullets on the links section by using list-style-type: none;.

Finally, you should read my last comment on "I Could Fool you All".

Add a comment

I could fool you all.

I just realized there is a tag I can use to make certain things on my blog visable only to the adminastrator of the blog, me. Though I've used to for a link that links me to the new post screen at the end of my links section. Look if you like you won't beable to see it.

Ok, so on to the point of the topic. I could use that link to make two layouts. One that only I could see and one everyone else would beable to see! Maybe I should! You'd nevre know it! HA!

You do that. And let me know how you do on Yahoo Messenger (hint, hint, cough).

Need.... something.... to post....

Ok, lets see, what have I been doing lately? Math.... GunZ, very little Guild Wars and that's about it.

I had a weird vision last night at 4 in the morning.... ok, I don't think it was quite a vision, more an image that was stuck in my mind like a song. It was of a large black man that looked like he was in his forties standing outside my patio door. He had a big flat nose (that the main thing I remember) with eyes hidden by shadow, I think his mouth was in a frown or something like it. Oh and it was twilight, because it wasn't night or day. Ok so I wake up in the middle of the night needing to pee (I wake up when that happens and have trouble getting back to sleep if I don't) and I start thinking about this man and I feel like there's really someone like that at my door just waiting to get in and kill me or something. After 15 minutes or so of trying to get back to sleep dispite my full bladder I finally decide to get up and relieve myself.

I climbed down from my bed (I have a loft bed so I climb on it) listening carefully for maybe Lilly making any noise or maybe my mom. Not hearing anything I quickly flipped the light in the hall on and stared down it for a few second then not seeing anything quickly dashed half the length of the hall to my bathroom and flipped the light on there and proceded to empty my bladder. Having done that I peered out into the hall way and now being closer to the stairs I was even more scared. Still seeing nothing and turned the bathroom light off and bolted down the hall (it's not all that long mind you) and turn it's light off while quickly climbing back into bed.

I knew it was just a thought and that the man wasn't real but I was still scared. So after a fwe minutesof trying to get to sleep as well as trying to get the image from my mind unsucessfully I propped Lily's birthday picture up beside my bed and stared at that for a little thinking happy thoughts then still not going to sleep I read two chapters in Second Foundation by Issac Asimov. Whatevr I did after that is lost to sleep.

So yeah, I have this weird thing about that that makes me really want to tell people about that. I've, with the help of Celia, named the man Francis though, so I can yell at him he's got a lame name and should leave. =/ I dunno if it'll work though.... We'll see if he comes back again. I suspect he will though since I've seen him before.

Nintendo Unveiled Revolution's Contoller

Yes, you heard correctly, Nintendo showed off Revolution's Controller earlier this evening, or morning for those in Japan!

Mr. Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo's Key Speech at TGS 2005 (Tokyo Game Show 2005)
Warning: it is 47:17 minutes long so make sure you've got at least that much time to give to it. Though it lets to move back to a certain place so if you can't that's ok too.

Revolution Branding Gone

It's much much different then I ever thought of. It turns out I'm just as set in my way of thinking as Microsoft and Sony are. There is a lot of speculation on how practical this will be for Nintendo but it doesn't really matter since Nintendo is still keeping their support for GameCube and Revolution has controller and Memcard ports on it so if all else fails it'll be a GameCube that went on a diet and ate a DVD Player. (Thank my buddy Ryan for that one ^_^) Though I'll also beable to play older NES, SNES, and N64 games so it almost like it ate the previous systems too!

It's pretty intersting though, since the system will beable to detect where "The Pointer" is so it adds a new depth to gaming, not quite Holo Technology but certainly a step towards it. Speaking of graphics, people say that the lack of HD support is a stupid move on Nintendo's part, which maybe people will be less inclined to buy the system because of that, but then again if those people are only looking for graphics Revolution isn't for them in the first place.

Revolution is about inovations in the way we play games, not a holo-deck like in Star Trek but a step towards it since you'll beable to move with much more freedom then with a normal controller like X-Box, Play Station, and even GameCube. I'm sure a lot of you move the controller around 'hoping' that you'll move faster if you move it in the direction you want, I know I do. With Revolution doing that will actually cause something to happen!

Taking things into the FPS (First Person Shooter, eg. Halo) relm, Retro Studio's did demo Metroid Prime 2: Echos with the controller, though they whipped it up in just a couple of weeks so it was far from perfect. Basicly you move forwards, backwards, and strafe left and right with "The Pod" and point in the direction you want Samus to face. This could bring a whole new level of precision to FPSs on consoles, especialy if Nintendo gets things right with how sensative the controller is. One problem I'm not sure how they'll tackle is moving the view since no matter how far out you move the Pointer if you move it back to the center you'll still be facing where you started. I have faith they'll get that perfected though, after all it is Nintendo we're talking about and they have a history of high quality stuff.

Think about GameBoy with me for a second. There is one main reason it was better than every other handheld console at the time even though it was still black and green and many of the others were color. That reason is battery life, well that and it had Tetris, but you could play for far longer than all of the other handheld consoles. Nintendo maybe not have been top notch graphicaly but they new what would be the best in the long run. They never tried to sacrifice qaulity for technology and the same rings true today.

Looking at the DS, in my opinion it's better than Sony's PSP, and not just because I hate Sony. Battery life is again an issue, on the minimum settings the PSP has about 6 hours of juice in it while the DS under normal conditions has roughly 15 hours (I've tested this) on a full charge. The drain rate does increase signifcantly if you use the wireless feature but it' still got many hours of gameplay in it. Now true, graphicaly the DS isn't on par with the PSP but it's got inovation with the touch screen to back it up.

Now lets look at Revolution, keep thinking graphicaly for me please. They've opted out of adding HD support to their latest console, but look at their history with something inovative like the GamyBoy, it was one of the first handhelds out there and it thrived with it's low quality graphics. I feel the same thing is going to happen for Revolution, in a sense, it may not beable to show you the pimple on that guys face over there, or the tiny cracks on a stone pillar, but if the games on Revolution are more fun to play because they're new I'd rather play something fun and new yet lower on graphical power then something old yet graphicaly intensive.

Overall after reading up about it I'm rather excited about the potentals Nintendo has created for the game world. Maybe it'll flop but maybe it'll create a gaming Revolution like the name suggests. If it does what the XBox 360 claimed to do, "Turn the gaming world 360 degrees." then maybe Microsoft and Sony will adopt features similar and create another competition pushing the idea ever forward.

One thig is for sure though, I'll have one and I'll be along for the ride where ever Nintendo takes us. Why? Because I believe in Nintendo, I trust them not to lead us into a hole in the ground and leave us (though I'd blindly follow even if they did!). I know there's a bunch of topics I totaly left out but I wanted to get the information out to you and my thoughts on it. I may write some more in-depth "reviews" about the many different facets of the doors Nintendo is opening, but untill then I'll leave you to drool. Chao!

Your brother in Nintendo-dom,
Patrick, a.k.a. Pakattack1*1, a.k.a. Hawk McKain.

Four years.

Wow. I'm not sure how man of you remembered today is the Fourth anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Centers but it's amazing the attacks were four years ago. I still remember what I was doing that morning/afternoon, channel surfing (go Arthur!). My mom had made sure the TV was set to PBS since it was a Tuesday and she had her bible study to go to so once Arthur was over it was something like Barney or Dragon Tails and I didn't want to watch those so I flipt the channel and saw the replays of the attack, I wasn't sure what was going on so I rushed upstairs and woke Andrew up saying the Two Towers had been bombed and he didn't believe me for a second, heck, I wasn't even sure if what I had seen was true but unfortunatly it all was.

Doesn't seem like it's been 4 years but there hasn't been another attack on US soil since (or any of North America for that matter, as far as I know anyway) which is pretty amazing since there are attacks all over the world. Makes me glad I live here in the States. It's amazing how so many people can complain about it too. We're the least hit country in the world and yet we seem to complain more, or at least louder, than ever other country.

Anyway, as to day is the foruth anniversary of September 11th, please take sometime as some point to day and think about all the families that lost loved ones bcause of the attack. And remember, we will never forget what happend on that day four years ago!

Wallpaper of the Week 56! (WotW)

Once again it's Wednesday.... on frieday! Though really Guild Wars in calling it "Wallpaper of the Week" WotW! I like Wallpaper Wednesday. But.... so I don't get hatemail.... I'm now calling it the proper name.

So without further adieu I give you Wallpaper #56!

My impression of the wallpaper is first off that is is from the latest update which added a while new area to explore: Sorrow's Furnace. Not too suprising that they'd make a wallpaper for it's launch.

Beside that I really get the feeling it's looking at me, or even for me. It looks a lot like something from Wild Wild West (good movie if you ever get the chance to see it.) mixed with the Borg Queen's head from Star Trek: Voyager with her spine all wiggling.... ::Shiver:: really creepy.

Late Night Rant..... *thunder and lightining*

T.T Netscape crashed and what I had of my post went with.....

Anyway! As I was saying, it's midnight, I'm waiting for the laundry to finish, I think I'll write a rant about something.... Well ok this time it's about Nintendo (aren't all my rants about Nintendo anymore?) but this time it's not a "OHMYGOSH NINTENDO PWNZOR J00!" type rant, no it's more of a "Nintendo, know I'll always always love you no matter what but you're starting to get on my nervers." type rant.

So lets begin! This time I shall do the age old thing and link you to an article on IGN! (I love IGN.... *sigh*) Que fluffy pink border! Metriod Prime: Hunters gains the 'WiFi power-up!

Read it? Well you don't really need to because what I'm about to rant about only deals with these lines here:
"Earlier this week Nintendo revealed that Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS has been delayed into 2006. Today, the company announced that the game will be using that extra time so the development team can implement support for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online service."

OK, now sure that's all fine and dandy, I love Metriod and I love WiFi it'll be great to see the two together atlast but jeeze, you've already pushed off The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 'til 2006! I was fine with that, I'm not a hardcore Zelda fanatic and as much as I enjoyed the former Zelda games I wasn't near as psyced as most people. SO yeah I can deal with that push off, and it's not like Halo 2 anyway they're actually adding to the game not cutting it in half so they can make people pay another $50 for Halo 3. (I love Windows but Microsoft annoys me too.)

Back to Metriod! This news did come as a bit of a suprise since I was under the impression that it would come with WiFi anyway and that I was psyced about. Heck I'd be psyced about Hunters even if it was Single Player only since Metriod Prime on a handheld > all. Now I am glad they decided to add the WiFi thing, and it's even better because, as I'm sure you all know, Nintendo is offering their WiFi network for free and so I'll beable to play people anywhere adding many many fold to the fun since the multiplayer is extrodinary and that's just on the demo!

Even still, I hope Nintendo doesn't push off the rumored revealing of Revolution's contoller at the Tokyo Game Show, but even if they do it's just a rumor but it'd certainly be nice of Nintendo, and believe me if they do you'll be blasted with capital letters for quite possibly an entire post. ^__^

Lastly it's time for everyone's favorite part of the post! ADS!
This post's advertisment is a Devart site. Someone's Devart account!
YAY! For shameless self advertising! ^__^ You know you love me!

I'm quite enjoying making these types of posts (so much I'm going to start naming them!), I hope they don't get too old anytime soon, gimme a month or two and I'll be back to my normal once everyother week posts!

From all of me here at Ranting: Late Night Edition this is,
Patrick Kennedy
a.k.a. PakAttack 1*1
a.k.a. Hawk McKain
To all my three or so readers have a great day/night/week!

Well, I have the same views, but I'm nowhere near the Nintendo fanatic you are.

For example, I'm waiting for the W3C to release CSS 2.1 which has been in development for like what four years, and I'm kind of disappointed in Microsoft's slow creation of Internet Explorer 7.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the whole "I love Windows but Microsoft annoys me". I'm not much of a gamer -- most of the games I wanted have already come out and I'm waiting on my allowance to increase -cough- so I can buy all of 'em.

Good rant. Cheers!

Revolution and the Tokyo Game Show

Well until just about an hour ago I never knew when the TGS was! But now I know it runs the weekend of the 16th which is in 2 weeks from tomorrow. This means there might be new about Revolution's Controller! Even two weeks away I'm very excited about any new news from Nintendo. Also some rather humerous information from IGN:

Question: What do you think the special hook of the Nintendo Revolution controller will be?

Trackball - 4.2% - 648 votes
Squishy feel - 4.5% - 704 votes
Gyroscope - 12.8% - 1974 votes
Brain wave control - 11.6% - 1802 votes
Touch screen - 24.6% - 3790 votes
Wheel - 0.7% - 111 votes
Glove form - 4.6% - 714 votes
Reconfigurable layout - 12.8% - 985 votes
No buttons - 7.0% - 1083 votes
Nothing - 16.8% - 2595 votes

Total Votes - 100% - 15406 votes

Personaly I believe either Glove Form, Reconfigurable Layout, or maybe squishy feel. Possible even a combination of the three. Out of those anyway, I've got other ideas though. One based off the saying "Touching is good but feeling is better." and that one is a controller that shifts to feel like whatever you're "touching" in the game, that could go along with the "squishy feel". After all, Nintendo does hold patents on we'll just have to wait and see.

For the total article for the poll follow this link and take your first page.

---------

A little insert! w00t! About the TGS even >_>
Check out the Tokyo Game Show offical site. There isn't a whole lot of info there but hey, who needs info, we're all just droolling right? (heh heh, I typed drolling ^^;)
I really wanna go! and only 1,200 yen per person! That's like $1.20 here! (a buck twenty for all y'all Texans and Coloradins out there) Too bad airfair is like.... a lot more than that! Oh well, I'll just listen in second hand with IGN!
---------

Anyway! More about the controller!
The writer of the poll article said:
"Of all the theories buzzing around the Web these days, it looks like the inclusion of gyroscopic control is most viable, if only because Nintendo has used simple forms of the technology in previous efforts."

This is backed up in part by the patents Nintendo holds for gyroscopic technology. Those could just be for the current uses they have out there today but you never know.

Nintendo also holds patents on (to quote)
Feel
Texture morphing process provided by the preferred embodiment of the present invention
Haptic sensations for tactile feedback interface devices
Directional tactile feedback for haptic feedback interface devices
Cursor control using a tactile feedback device
Data filter for haptic feedback devices having low-bandwidth communication links
Interface for controlling a graphical image
Position sensor with resistive element
Controller interface for a graphics system

Motion
Game system with tilt sensor and game program including viewpoint direction changing feature
Game device changing sound and an image in accordance with a tilt operation
Interactive electronic game having gyroscopic output effect

Misc.
Video game controller with integrated microphone and speaker

OK, there are a few of the patents I found, mind you I have no clue what so ever what most if not all of them mean so if some smart person comes along and figures out that every single one of them have nothing to do with a gaming system's controller please let me know ^^;

So yeah, if some of those are connected with Revolutions Controllers it would seem to indicate that it'll have something to do with the sense of touch!

Anyway! That's all my rambling about Revolution for today! I hope some of this made sense and was in some way useful if not please disreguard it and just worry about the first half! ^^; Untill next post, Sayonara!
